The United Airlines Foundation, the charitable arm of United Airlines, Inc. awarded $50,000 in grants on Thursday, November 29, 2007 to 46 organizations for which United employees and retirees perform 40 hours or more of volunteer service each year. Glenn Tilton, chairman, president and CEO and Pete McDonald, executive vice president and chief operating officer, presented awards to the recipients at a lunch and ceremony which took place at the company’s training center in suburban Chicago.
United individual volunteer grants recognize employees and retirees for their individual commitments to community service and were awarded to individual organizations in the name of the volunteer recipients. Forty-five of the grants were in the amount of $1,000 and a special Chairman’s Award grant worth $5,000 recognized the employee who demonstrated the greatest commitment, compassion and energy to a charitable cause.
Tom Goodyear, president, United Airlines Historical Foundation, was one of the lucky recipients of the $1,000 grant, which he received for the countless hours he spends at the Foundation office at the United Flight Center in Denver speaking to groups, providing tours of UAHF museum displays, collecting memorabilia and managing a volunteer staff of eight workers. We congratulate Tom on his award and all his efforts to further the UAHF mission to “preserve the past, inspire the future”.
